Lower East Side Ecology Center
The Lower East Side Ecology Center seeks interns to work in its small business sustaibility program, EcoBizNYC. Preference will be given to students who can receive college credit (undergraduate or graduate) through their schools. Interns should be able to work 15-20 or more hours per week, and commit for the summer (June-August) with the option to continue into the fall semester (August-December). Stipends to cover travel expenses are available.
EcoBizNYC interns will provide small businesses in the East Village/Lower East Side with resources to reduce their overall emissions, reduce their negative impacts on community health and increase their community support while saving money. Interns will enroll small businesses in the EcoBizNYC program and work with participating small business owners to provide an assessment of the business’ "environmental baseline" as well as a checklist of steps and resources they can take to reduce their harmful emissions and increase their energy efficiency. Interns will develop assessments, work on reporting and business monitoring, and develop program content. Additional projects may include a newsletter, grant application writing, and/or developing incentives and resources materials; opportunities to work on other Lower East Side Ecology Center programs may be possible. Knowledge of the NYC community, particularly the East Village/Lower East Side is a plus.
